Eric Eckes is a highly skilled trial attorney who has dedicated his law career to defending the criminally accused. A strong litigator with significant courtroom experience, Eric has successfully tried numerous complex and difficult jury trials in state and federal courts.

Eric’s criminal practice involves a wide-ranging scope throughout Ohio and Kentucky in both state and federal courts. He is known not only as an impassioned trial attorney, but also as a thorough litigator of federal and state appeals, including habeas petitions.

In addition to educating seasoned criminal practitioners at national conferences, Eric has dedicated much time to training new lawyers in Colorado, Kentucky, and Ohio. Due to Eric’s litigation in 4^th Amendment cases involving modern technology, he has recently been speaking to criminal defense audiences on current and future 4^th Amendment issues in the digital age.

Eric began his legal career in Denver, Colorado, working for the Office of the Colorado Public Defender, where he handled all levels of felony cases. He gained invaluable jury trial experience and received extensive criminal defense training from the Colorado Public Defender, whose training program is widely recognized as a national model.

Before joining Pinales Stachler, Eric moved back to his hometown of Cincinnati, and worked for the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy in Covington, Kentucky. While working to defend the indigent accused, Eric gained a reputation among his clients and the legal community as a zealous advocate for his clients. Eric continued to hone his jury trial expertise on serious felony cases.

Eric graduated magna cum laude from The Ohio State University. He earned his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati, where he graduated summa cum laude and was elected to the Order of the Coif, an honorary scholastic society recognizing graduates who have attained a high grade of scholarship. He was also an Associate Member of the Cincinnati Law Review, an Articles Editor for the Human Rights Quarterly, and received a Rosenthal Institute for Justice Fellowship working for the Ohio Innocence Project.

Eric is licensed to practice law in Ohio and Kentucky.  He is also admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Southern District of Ohio and the Eastern District of Kentucky and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
